The Caden app once promised a win-win: you share your data, and they pay you for it. For a while, it worked. I received several payouts personally. But now? The app is unresponsive, their site has been frozen for weeks, and Reddit users are connecting the dots—and it’s not looking good.
Three Weeks of “We’re Building Something Special”
If you’ve opened the app lately, you’ve seen the message: “We’re building something special. We’ll be back soon.” It’s been saying that for over three weeks, with no further updates, communication, or explanation.
What Reddit Users Are Reporting
According to multiple posts and user research on Reddit, Caden’s board of directors appears to have resigned. Many of the original leadership team now lists jobs elsewhere on LinkedIn. There has been no official press release, social post, or app store update. The company just… vanished.
Is Caden Still Collecting Your Data?
The bigger concern is this: the app still installs. You may still be logged in. And unless you’ve manually revoked permissions, it may still have background access to your:
- Bank transaction data
- Device usage patterns
- Location history
- Email permissions (if you granted them)
Recommendation: uninstall the app, and check your connected apps in services like Plaid or Google Account Permissions to revoke access.
Should You Be Concerned?
I’m not saying Caden set out to deceive anyone. But as of now, the app is nonfunctional, the company is silent, and your data may still be flowing. That’s enough reason to cut ties.
Better Passive Apps That Still Work
Still want to get paid for passive data or habits? Try:
- AtlasEarth – Earn small rent payouts by watching ads
- Benjamin – Was paying, but recently banned users (my review here)
- InboxDollars – Still one of the most consistent options
Final Thought
Caden felt like a great idea while it lasted. But as of mid-2025, it looks like yet another “get paid for your data” startup that ran out of money or momentum. If something changes, I’ll update this post — but for now, treat the app as defunct and take back control of your data.
